Step 3) Define Preparedness Goals and/or Specific Goals for Each Target

Goals:

1) Define goals for each target

Benefits:

I. Clear goals focus attention, direct resources, and allow everyone to follow progress

Investment required:

I. Education and training: none

II. Time:

a) Goals are defined in assessments; thus, department heads and administration need to review and modify these as needed. This can be done in a pre-assessment briefing followed by an assessment review, discussion, and potentially modification. (1 hour)

b) Department heads: Review of assessment evening before assessment: (1 hour)

III. Financial: none for first two targets. Perhaps a future investment to streamline the assessment from a paper then computer program to an app on a tablet would be helpful

Solutions: One Standard tools:

I. Assessments, defining the perioperative preparedness goals and surgical site infection prevention goals, are done. They need reviewed and the assessments modified as needed for the first two targets

a) Airway preparedness is defined in One Standard Report I and II Assessment as needed.

b) Surgical site infection prevention goals are in the workflows assessment

II. The completed assessment are templates for future targets
